Hunter's Specialties, Inc Pro Staff: Rick White

In 1974 it started. A wide eyed curious boy, from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, discovered the passion and love for the outdoors that was hidden in his system. This passion and love has since escalated and now includes competition turkey calling. Four Iowa state titles later, 14 titles altogether, he is coming off the first sweep in the history of the Iowa State Turkey Calling Championships and as a member of the Hunter's Specialties National Pro Staff a dream come true. Rick White’s love for the outdoors was apparent at an early age. Around the age of six his father got it started. “He’s the one that got me out shooting,” said Rick. “He got me involved with pheasant, squirrel, and rabbit hunting. It just evolved from there.” Evolve it did. In 1974, at the age of 12, he went deer hunting for the first time. “I actually got two that year,” says Rick.

“I do believe that anybody that gets involved with the outdoors has a better respect for life,” said Rick, which is one point that he tries to get across to everyone. “Whether it’s hunting, fishing, or camping, I know and believe it’s true. I also believe that the camaraderie shared between parents and their kids helps build stronger relationships.”

Rick’s love for the outdoors, knowledge, and calling ability are also some of the talents that where noticed at Hunter's Specialties, Inc. “I actually made a phone call looking for some turkey calls for a contest, because nobody had them for sale,” said Rick about his first contact with HS. “I ended up talking with Matt Morrett on the phone. He just talked to me about some things and asked me if I’d be interested in the possibility of helping promote Hunter's Specialties at some of the promotions. Of course I was!” Eventually one thing led to another and in ’98 he was added to the National Pro Staff on a part-time basis. In 2000 it was changed to full time employment.
